When Money Is Tight, Remember Who Holds Tomorrow
A moment of encouragement from LGS to start your week.
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ … For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:31–33 NKJV
This is something we have faced many times throughout our marriage.
Owning your own business comes with an incredible amount of stress, mostly financial.
Let’s face it. Financial stress can be overwhelming.
When the bills keep coming, the bank account is running low, groceries are getting more expensive, and payday still seems too far away, it’s easy to feel the pressure building.
You start doing the math in your head. Trying to figure out what can wait, what needs to be paid now, and how you’re going to make everything stretch just a little further.
And sometimes, even when you’ve done everything you know to do, the numbers just don’t seem to add up.
It’s a heavy feeling.
Especially when you have a family depending on you, responsibilities you can’t ignore, and people you don’t want to disappoint.
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t even the lack of money.
It’s the fear of not knowing how you’re going to make everything work.
But here’s something we hope will encourage your heart today.
God knows what you’re facing, and He hasn’t forgotten what you need.
In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus speaks directly about worrying over life’s necessities.
Food. Drink. Clothing.
These weren’t imaginary concerns. They were real, everyday needs, just as they are for us today.
And Jesus reminds us that our Heavenly Father already knows we need these things.
Think about that for a moment.
Before you ever opened that bill, God knew about it.
Before you started worrying about how to buy groceries, God knew what you needed.
Before you lay awake trying to figure out how everything was going to work out, God already knew what was weighing on your heart.
Your financial struggles may be overwhelming to you, but they are not unknown to God.
Now, that doesn’t mean every financial problem will suddenly disappear.
It doesn’t mean we should ignore our responsibilities, stop working, or avoid making difficult decisions.
God calls us to be wise and responsible with what He’s entrusted to us.
But He also reminds us that we don’t have to carry the weight of tomorrow all by ourselves.
Philippians 4:6–7 tells us:
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 4:6–7 NKJV
Notice that Paul doesn’t tell us to pretend our problems don’t exist.
He tells us to bring them to God.
And I think that’s something we sometimes forget.
We pray about our health, our families, and our relationships, but we may hesitate to bring our financial worries before the Lord.
Maybe we’re embarrassed.
Maybe we feel like we should have everything figured out by now.
Or maybe we’ve prayed about the same situation so many times that we’re beginning to wonder if God is listening.
But He is.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you come to God. You just have to be willing to bring Him what you’re carrying.
And sometimes the answer to our prayers doesn’t come as quickly or in the way we expected.
Sometimes God provides through an opportunity, a helping hand, wise advice, or the strength and clarity to make a difficult decision.
And sometimes, while we’re still waiting for circumstances to change, He gives us something we desperately need.
Peace.
The kind of peace that reminds us we’re not alone.
The kind that helps us take the next step instead of being consumed by everything that might happen tomorrow.
The kind that comes from trusting that our Heavenly Father knows what we need and cares about what we’re going through.
So if money is tight right now, please remember this.
Your bank account does not determine your worth, and your financial struggles do not mean God has abandoned you.
Do what you can with what you have. Make wise decisions. Ask for help when you need it. Pray over the things you cannot control.
And when the pressure starts to feel overwhelming, remember the words of Jesus:
“For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”
You may not know exactly how everything is going to work out.
You may still have bills to pay, decisions to make, and challenges ahead.
But you don’t have to know how tomorrow will work out to trust the One who will be with you through it.
Because even when money is short, God’s love isn’t.
Even when resources are limited, His faithfulness remains.
And even when tomorrow feels uncertain, you never have to face it alone.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing our needs and caring about every burden we carry. Lord, You know the financial struggles, unpaid bills, and worries that are weighing on so many hearts today. For those who are overwhelmed, bring peace. For those who are struggling to provide for their families, open doors of opportunity and provision. Give us wisdom to manage what we have, courage to make difficult decisions, and humility to ask for help when we need it. Remind us that our worth is not measured by our finances and that Your love never changes. Help us trust You one day at a time, knowing that You will never leave us to face life’s challenges alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let's Get Serious for Jesus.
