TAKE THE FIRST STEP

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." James 4:8

Have you ever felt like you needed to get your life together before getting serious about God again?

Maybe you've been meaning to pray more, read your Bible, get back to church, or simply spend more time with God—but you keep telling yourself, "I'll start tomorrow."

Days become weeks, weeks become months, and before long, the distance feels greater than it really is.

Here's the good news: God isn't asking you to fix everything before you come to Him. He's asking you to draw near.

And that begins with one step. You don't need to read the entire Bible today. Read one chapter.

You don't need to find the perfect words to pray. Just talk to Him.

You don't need to suddenly become the person you think you should be. Simply give God the person you are right now.

Sometimes we procrastinate because we think the first step needs to be a big one. But small, faithful steps can become the beginning of something much greater.

James 4:8 gives us both an invitation and a promise: "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."

God is not asking you to cross the entire distance by yourself. He's inviting you to move toward Him. So this week, ask yourself: What is one step I can take to draw closer to God?

Maybe it's five minutes of prayer before your day begins. Maybe it's opening your Bible again. Maybe it's returning to church. Maybe it's finally talking to God about something you've been carrying alone.

Whatever that step looks like for you, take it today. You don't have to have everything figured out. You just have to take the first step.

Prayer:

God, I know there are times when I allow distractions, busyness, or hesitation to create distance between us. Help me stop waiting for the perfect moment and choose to draw near to You today. Give me the desire and discipline to seek You, even through small steps. Thank You for Your promise that when I draw near to You, You draw near to me. Amen.
